Grazing 2009
Posted 5/5/2009 12:54pm by Eugene Wyatt.

The work changes with the season: in winter we bring hay to the sheep, now we bring the sheep to pasture.
The rams went out today, the open ewes go out tomorrow and the ewes with lambs will go out in two weeks at weaning. At first, the weaned lambs will be kept close to the barn and introduced slowly to pasture allowing their rumens time to adjust to the rich grasses; a week or so after that, these lambs, born in March and April, will go to pasture for the summer and into the fall until the grass goes dormant for the colder months.
