The Farm
Catskill Merino is a small sheep farm in Goshen, New York, 60 miles northwest of New York City. The sheep are superfine merinos and are selected to produce soft wool. After their fleece is shorn and spun it is hand-dyed on the farm and sold as colorful yarn at the Union Square Greenmarket in New York City along with prime lamb that is raised on pasture. The flock does well on these grassy fields that slope gently into an ancient lake bed called The Black Dirt; the winters are mild here and the sheep like this fertile land.

But a sheep farm is more than its land. It is a place of birth, it is a place of life, it is its ewes. There are days when I look at the sheep and wonder if I don't belong to them as much as they belong to me.
